From our Pastor
Prepare yourself spiritually for this: Is it just me or does it seem like the years are going by faster? It seems like just yesterday we were ushering in 2009 with Steve Fee and our New Year’s concert. The older I get, the more I realize how quickly time flies by. It seems like it was just a couple of years ago that I was a nine year old boy going on canoe trips with my dad, and going forward in a church service, with tears in my eyes, giving my life to Jesus as my Savior and Lord. But that was 40 years ago. It seems like just months ago, I was 23 years old, pastoring my very first church and getting ready to marry the love of my life. But that was 26 years ago. It seems like just days ago that Sherrie and I were in that delivery room experiencing the birth of our first child, but that same child just walked down the aisle marrying the woman of his dreams. It’s true that the older we get, our years seem more like months and our months seem more like days. That became crystal clear to me as I was reading through the Psalms last month. Over and over again, the Psalmist reminds us of the brevity of life. Psalm 39:4-5 says, “Show me, O Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath.” Psalm 90:10-12 “The length of our days is seventy years––or eighty, if we have the strength… they quickly pass, and we fly away…Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 102:3, 11 “For my days vanish like smoke…My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.” Psalm 103:15-16 “As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone…” Psalm 144:4 “Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow.” So what can we take from these verses as we begin a new year? First, don’t make assumptions. James said, “The length of your lives is as uncertain as the morning fog—now you see it; soon it is gone.” Next, spend your time wisely. Paul said, “Make the most of your time.” So how can you make the most of your time? By investing in those things that will outlast you! Some one said it this way. “Everything you do in life will one day pass. Only what you do for Christ will last.”
Happy New Year from the Staff!

of all nations, tribes, and tongues. Our kids also have opportunities to be a missionary to those in our community. Recently our RAs and GAs participated in Thanksgiving Basket delivery, and our most recent project was the Lottie Moon Post Office, where all proceeds from Stamps and Cards, designed by our own Northside kids, will go directly to Missions! This spring, our GAs are tasked with earning the money to purchase and donate a Build-A-Bear to local law enforcement agencies as they seek to comfort kids in crisis. The RA boys will pack sacks of socks, sandwiches, sweets, and a gospel tract to distribute among the homeless in Finlay park. Each of these events are teaching moments, and you can be sure Northside Kids are learning that they can be a missionary wherever God has them!
When Jesus gave the Great Commission to “Go into all the world,” it was a command with no age restriction. Because we believe that each and every one of us has a daily opportunity to be a missionary, the time spent in Missions on Sunday nights is solely focused on preparing each child for the opportunities at hand. We’ve been studying hero’s of the faith— those that have gone before, and made an impact on eternity, by simply obeying God. We learn how people just like us learned to trust God and share His word with others

9:15 Becoming One
I grew up right here in the Midlands and began attending Northside in 1992. It was through the College Ministry that I met and married my wife, Melanie, in March of 1996. I currently work at Eastman Chemical Company and have been with them for the past 16 years. I truly love teaching the Word of God! God has blessed me with that privilege here at Northside for over 10 years in various adult departments. My wife and I currently serve and teach the Becoming One LIFE Group that seeks to reach and mentor newly married and engaged couples. It is our heart’s desire for them to catch the vision and plan God clearly lays out in scripture for marriage. God has blessed us with two beautiful children, Allie Paige and Carson. I love my church family! I surrendered my life to Christ here, was baptized here, married here, dedicated both my children here, and I count it a joy to serve my King here as a deacon!

“Welcome to Northside” Class
Sunday, Jan. 17 12–1:30 p.m. CFC 150
This introduction to the Northside family of faith will help you better understand what our church is all about, whether you’ve been here for 10 minutes or 10 years! Lunch and children’s activities provided. RSVP by Jan. 11, to Mary Boyce: 926-3029 or mboyce@northsidebaptist.org.
I am thankful to God for giving me a loving and Godly wife who prayed me to salvation; she did not give up on me. I have been attending Northside for 13 years now. Beth, my wife, has attended for 35 years now. Beth and I were married at Northside on August 10, 1996. We have 4 handsome sons: Logan (12), James (10), Daniel (7), and Tyler (3). They keep us on our toes, but we are truly blessed that God allowed us to have these children and pray for his guidance in leading them in a Godly way, for I was not raised in a Christian home and we did not attend church regularly growing up. But with the love and prayers of many prayer warriors at Northside, I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior in the fall of 2003. Since then it has been an experience that words just can’t begin to describe… from becoming Prayer Leader for our LIFE Group to eventually becoming Yokefellow two years ago. All the while, with God leading me to becoming an RA teacher (first & second grades) in 2006, to bringing me to this point in life as a Deacon . I know that God’s not done yet, so hang-on and lets enjoy this ride together.

Northside Veteran’s Group
Our mission is too bring praise to God by recognizing the blessings we all have because of the service of Veterans. Thanks to all that provided pictures for the slide show on 15 November. If you were not included in the slide show please contact Darryl Hammond so he can arrange to get your picture. Also, if you have not signed up to be a part of our group, please fill out the blue card at the back of the Sanctuary/Sprung and give it to a deacon or usher or drop it in the offering plate. There are no requirements for you to attend any meetings or for you to be a member, but we want to have a listing of our Veterans. We will put you on our email and regular mail list to receive announcements about meetings and upcoming events. We hope you will join us. We’d like a picture of you in uniform and a recent picture as well. Please check the bulletin/Northsider each week for the next Northside Veterans Group meeting. We hope to see you there!
Over the last 10 years, our community has waited and watched with anticipation to see just what will happen to the acres of property that bear the Northside logo just off of Hwy 378 and Ginny Lane. On October 31, Northside took the opportunity to show our community that things are happening by reaching out to the families of our community through Fall Festival. Inflatables, games, food, live entertainment, and hayrides were hosted by many Northside families, students, and volunteers. In addition, area business got involved and sponsored most of the booths that were available. We lined the streets with signs and balloons, and our property filled with people from
