God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! –Ephesians 3:20-21 The Message

From Our Pastor
It’s hard to believe, but what we have been praying and planning over 12 years is finally here. Nov. 8, we will be voting on our loan package to build our new campus at our I-20 & 378 property. I hope the question that each of us have been seeking to answer is, “What is God’s will in this matter?” Though I cannot be the Holy Spirit in your life, I can tell you several things I believe God has clearly revealed to me over the last two months. First, God has shown me that it is His will for us to be at our new property now. I asked Him if we should wait until later, and He took me to Joshua 18:3 which says, “How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?” I told God that I was afraid, and He led me to Joshua 1:9 which says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” And then He sent me a word from Rick Warren who said, “In 35 years of leading I’ve been afraid at every major step, but I did it anyway, since I refuse to let fear run my life.” And then this morning he led me to Ezra 3:3 which says, “Despite their fear...they built the altar.” I asked God why our building hadn’t sold and he led me to Joshua 3:13-15, “And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the LORD––the Lord of all the earth––set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap…now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest.” He told me that we must step in faith before He will show up in power. I asked God to give me a sign, and he gave me Numb. 14:11 which says, “The Lord said to Moses, ‘How long will they refuse to believe me, in spite of all the miraculous signs I have performed among them?” And I was reminded of all the ways God has already worked in this project through putting not one, but three schools at our doorsteps (a high school, middle school, and an elementary school); through having the School Board partner with us to build our boulevard entrance from 378 to Ginny Lane; to the cost of construction going down dramatically; to having more people participate our Imagine Giving Campaign than any other campaign in our church history, in spite of the economic times. Almost everyday, God confirms the direction He wants us to go. The second thing he has clearly revealed to me is that there is a balance between leadership and followship. As I have read God’s Word recently, there are two passages that jumped off the pages at me. The first was in Judges 5:2 which says, “Israel’s leaders took charge, and the people gladly followed.” The second was in 2 Chron. 20:20 which says, “...Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.” I am convinced that God calls spiritual leaders to point the way and then lead the way God wants His church to go, and yet at the same time, a leader cannot do it alone. It was God’s plan for Moses to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, but he never succeeded because the people rebelled and didn’t have faith. Success in the church comes when spiritual leaders listen to God, and God’s people gladly follow and trust. The final thing God has shown me is for success to occur, each of us must be willing to give God our all. I love what David said in 1 Chron. 21:24, “I will not give an offering that costs me nothing.” David was willing to sacrifice to see God do a great work. When God calls us to do something great, it is never easy and it is often costly. I am convinced God wants to do something great among us and through us, but it will take each of us giving our all to Him. Together, we will see God do a miracle! Excited about our future,

Why move at all? • • •
WHY MOVE?
When the Long Range Planning Committee originally proposed relocation, they were strongly influenced by these three factors: God demonstrates His love for us and has commanded us to share His love with others. The realization that it is not good stewardship to invest significant amounts of resources with severely limited potential for growth.
Those who come after us need for us to be a people of faith and commitment. With the additional properties, the generations who follow––our children and children’s children––will have the opportunities to continue to develop dreams and visions for making the maximum impact on our world. Some of us will not be here in 25 years, but we are stewards of this incredible window of opportunity.
requently sked
As we have prayed and prepared to move forward, there are three things that have directed our decision: 1. God’s will: Our first and foremost reason for relocating is that we are convinced it is God’s will. Just as God was leading the people of Israel to the Promised Land, we believe God is leading us to our new location. Our pastoral leadership is in one accord that not relocating at this time would be an act of disobedience. 2. Our mission: We would better accomplish God’s mission. Our desire should be to reach as many people as possible. If we are to continue growing, we know that will eventually have to relocate. We recognize that even though we have space for some growth here at our current location, we will continue to hit a ceiling because of parking, classroom, and eventually worship space. Our new location is one of the most strategic in the Midlands, being easily accessible to people through the Columbia area. 3. Economic commitment: If we choose to stay here, we would have to spend a great amount of resources in the next years renovating our current facilities and building new structures. Our existing Sanctuary, Preschool, Children, and Educational space was built in the 1950s and 60s. Our Sprung building has a life expectancy of 20 years, and it is almost 10 years old today. The Student facility is a warehouse that will eventually need major work. We do not think this would be the best stewardship of our resources, and we also recognize we would eventually have two separate churches. Even though the economy is still somewhat unstable, many costs are down, which could translate into savings. Construction costs have decreased significantly. The price for construction of our first phase has already been reduced by $2 million from the initial bid.
Why not maintain 2 campuses?
Why move now (with the economy the way it is)?

How much is the total project going to cost to complete Phase One? $9.4 million How much will we have to borrow? $7 million at 6.875 APR Our loan will be with Security Federal Bank. It is a 5 year loan (with the first 2 years as interest only), amortized over 25 years. The total debt payment per year at its highest point will be $550,000. We already have $200,000 per year budgeted towards that.
Can we afford it?
The simple answer is “yes.” Our Stewardship Team has prepared a financial model that takes us through the year 2017. This model does not include the sale of our existing property. Neither does it include the 5 acres of frontage property on Highway 378 that we have set aside as a “safety net.” It assumes no growth in 2010, 10% in 2011, 8% in 2012, and 5% from there on. The model assumes a second campaign when we move out to the new property in January 2012. We believe we have sought a balance of biblical faith and wise planning. Is our current location for sale? Yes, our current location is listed with a commercial realtor and is presently priced at $5 million. There has been some activity, but no offers have been made at this time.
F
WHAT WILL IT COST?
Student facilities, a modest bookstore/coffee shop, an indoor play area for children, adult classrooms, a warming kitchen, and a music suite. Are there some things that will not be duplicated immediately? Depending on cost, we may not relocate all of our offices to the new campus until this property sells. We will utilize our gym at our existing location until our property sells. What are some of the future phases? We will build a wellness center/CFC, a chapel to better accommodate weddings and funerals, missionary housing, and expanded recreational facilities. The existing Phase One multi-purpose worship center would become a fellowship hall suitable for wedding receptions, with a fully operational kitchen, expanded space for Preschool, Children, and Students, and an eventual Worship Center.
TELL US ABOUT OUR NEW CAMPUS
What type of ministries will we offer at our new campus?
We will continue to offer all of our Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night, and weekday ministries that we currently offer (including LIFE Groups) at our new campus, as long as they continue to minister to people and reach people with the good news of Jesus Christ. Our new facility will include a multi-purpose worship space for both our blended service with a choir and our contemporary service, in addition to state of the art Preschool, Children’s, and

What about Mission Columbia? Who can vote? When and how will we vote?
We are committed to Mission Columbia. We are dedicated to meeting this community where they are. Ideally, Mission Columbia will remain in its current location. If we sell our current property as a package deal and need to relocate Mission Columbia, the mission will be relocated to one of the vacant houses that Northside currently owns on Leaphart Road. The bottom line is this: Mission Columbia has a tremendous ministry here in West Columbia, and we will not jeopardize that ministry throughout this process; Mission Columbia will remain on Northside property in West Columbia.
WHAT ABOUT VOTING?
All Northside members can vote (meaning baptized, Northside members). We will have a secret ballot paper vote during our one church service at 10:15 a.m. on November 8, in the Sprung building. The results will be posted on our website as soon as they are available:
www.northsidebaptist.org
Claiming the Land...Prayer Marches
We are going to have Prayer Marches around our new property Nov. 1–6. We will ask you to sign up for a certain day or days and literally march around our property (there will be a clear trail to follow) asking God to consecrate the land and use it for His glory. On the seventh day, Saturday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m., we will meet as a church, hundreds of us gathered together to Prayer March our property, and then we’ll blow the trumpets signifying the victory God has, and will give us.
Reading Through God’s Word
Join us as we read through God’s Word in 6 days (Nov. 2–7). We believe there is power in the vocal Word of God! As we prepare to take the land God has given us, we will read Genesis–Revelation. The sanctuary will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. We are asking that you take part by signing up for a 30-minute time slot where you will read God’s Word out loud. If you prefer not to read, then you are welcome to come at any time and listen. Sign up sheets are located at the Prayer Table in the Sanctuary and Sprung. Call Mary Boyce for more info: 926-3029.

Northside’s goal is to send 800 filled shoeboxes. If you are unable to fill a box, you can donate any of the items on the list below in the donation boxes around campus. Or you may contribute financially by making a check payable to Northside. Make sure you specify “OCC” in the memo line of the check. Dedication Sunday: Nov. 15.
GRAND OPENING: Sunday, November 22
Open Sunday Mornings and Wednesday Evenings Location: CFC Welcome Center
Northside’s RAs and GAs are serving the Lord in our Lottie Moon Post Office to raise money for international missions through the IMB’s Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Their hard work will go into constructing the post office, decorating it with information about missions and Lottie Moon, and running the service.
• Plan to volunteer with local “hub” churches in the Midlands.
November 16–23, we will go to North Trenholm Baptist to fill boxes with toys, candy and goodies while praying for the children who will receive them overseas. Knowing that these children will learn about Jesus because we are willing to donate a little of our time and love--what better Christmas gift could there be?

We also drove into the Guatemala City cemetery, which was a scene in itself. These people create temples for their family members who have passed away. One resembles a tomb in Egypt! However, as we made our way to the edge of the cliff that the cemetery sits on, we looked over the edge and witnessed the most unbelievable thing I have ever seen in my life. As we looked over down into the city dump, we saw a community where 11,000 people call, “home.” 11,000 people call most of the cities of trash their home. They work there, they look for trash they can grab and resell. They raise their families there. You hear the boys saying, “I want to grow up and be like my daddy who is a scavenger.” Their biggest aspirations is to grow up and live in the city dump. It was insane. I saw Jesus down there, though. I saw people who are loved by our Creator, searching for their Savior. I knew as I stood far up high on a mountain and looked over the cliff that my Jesus was there, in the midst of all those lost souls. –Mike D’Attoma

My wife Karen and I joined Northside in 1996, and almost immediately began serving. We taught high school Sunday school for a year and then moved to teach 1st and 4th grades, where we have been for the past 10 years. I also taught 5th and 6th grade RAs for 2 years with my friend Jeff Haley. I played in the praise band for about 4 years, and was the softball league coordinator for 5 years. Having games on the church’s field every Monday night for 12 to 14 weeks every summer was a lot of fun and a lot of hard work that could not have been accomplished without the help of God and my wonderful wife. Along with my wife, Karen, God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters, Morgan (13) and Madelyn (10). We all love Northside and it’s a pleasure to serve God here. We are thankful for the great friends we have made over the years.
