“God’s Plan” January 11-15, 2010 In the next lesson, we will look specifically at Jesus’ words and how His sacrifice and challenge for the church is part of a plan that goes back before creation. Read John 17:4-5 in the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) and fill in the blanks below. 1. “I have glorified You ____________ _______________ _____________ by _____________ the work You gave Me to do. Now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with that _____________ I had with You _____________ the world _____________” (John 17:4-5). 2. What do Jesus’ words in John 17:4-5 tell us about Him and God’s plans for Him and the world? Read: Psalm 8:3-5 (HCSB) and fill in the blanks below. 3. “When I observe Your _____________, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You set in place, what is _____________ that You remember him, the_____________ _____________ _____________ that You look after him? You made _____________ __________ _____________ _____________ _____________ _____________ and crowned him with glory and honor” (Psalm 8:3-5). 4. What does this verse reveal about God’s plan for us? Following the fall of Adam and Eve, God’s plan to redeem the world soon fell into motion. As sin spread throughout the world, God allowed mankind to play a role in His plan through mankind’s obedience to His commands. Read Genesis 12:1-4. 5. How is Abraham an example of obedience? 6. What did God tell Him to do in Genesis 12:1? How did he respond? 7. What are some ways God has led you to do something without much detail? 8. What are some of the lessons we can learn about how God moves His people to action? Think of some ways you would be willing to follow Jesus’ challenge to get out of your comfort zone and confront the unknown. Write down three to five ideas about how you could show Christ’s love to others. After you make the list of ideas, pray over it. Ask God to give you opportunities to apply Jesus’ words to your life. Pray that God would remove those fears and obstacles that get in the way of being obedient.
